'Some Nappy headed hoes there-' That was Don Imus last week. I have heard so many things that make me feel weird about this situation. On the View Joy Behar was arguing that it's free speech and I think a few other people have said things like this-that he has a long career where he was not that offensive in that brand, and that maybe his behavior could be recanted by the creation of a scholarship.
I would have to agree with what Joy said when she thought that he could pick on the bigger guys instead of the weaker ones with his humor. It was a strange statement after so many years of being on the air. And when did being a shock jock mean you were just saying annoying rude things? What happened to the cleverness? I always feel like Howard Stern is clever even though he is talking about boobies or whatever.
Or how about Elliot in the Morning here in DC? I love him and he never puts down any group without making an equal remark on some other group. And certainly never anything as dumb as calling a group of women hoes. Imus must be loosing his touch, it was the statement of a teenage boy, not an entertainer.
More so, what's in the water this year that all these people keep making nasty statements and then apologizing or saying they are alcoholics? Have we all become more sensitive? Or is the culture becoming more lax and allowing people these statements? And how come they always come from Men on racial issues?
A scholarship is just a spanking and not enough to deter anyone from making these statements, but loosing their job, that makes a statement. Doesn't anyone remember when people got fired on SNL for saying the F-word?
And really, isn't a scholarship just trying to buy away the offense? Guilt money? I also don't appreciate him calling a bunch of hard working women hoes. Was he secretly emasculated by their strong lithe strength and athleticism in comparison to his old bones? Thereby he was prompted to try and bring them down by making nasty remarks??
Who knows? I surely don't..
