It's a Good Question

I thought that ABC would cancel the View a long time ago when it was clear that the Hosts specifically, O' Donnell were going to punch their way through the show. Worse yet was the statement by Joy Behar two days ago that Imus' behavior last week was freedom of speech.

Why is it when a conservative says that everyone calls for their head after the Imus incident? But if a liberal says it it's considered enlighthened? Really? Maybe the argument is that people want to right to express themselves without the government's interference is being stretched to include jobs?

By the code of most diverse work places in the U.S. Imus would be fired, or at least put on a longer penalty of being fired. The first Amendment is about a person's right to say what they want and take the consequences of other people's reactions and attitudes without government interference. It is not about someone having a 'right' to be nasty and rude without suffering the public's condemnation, as if they were special . Now that the sponsors have pulled out Imus is loosing his place at MSNBC, but he keeps his radio show. It seems fair to me. I think his brand of humor which is really just taking very well known and highly regarded people and insulting them as a backhanded compliment went too far. I actually wondered if he thought this team was so famous his words would be taken that way. Whatever the case, I have listened to Howard Stern and Opie and Andy and never felt offended the way Imus offends. He just sounds like a cranky old man to me. I don't care how much money he raises for children, for all I know he raises it to make his guilt go away for himself.

This said, the public has obviously not made enough noise to have the View taken off the air. ABC has seen some rising ratings and they like that! Money in the pocket is more important than quality TV and programming. Really, I myself want to like Rosie' but she just has too many nasty moments. Her palpable anger scares me and I hate it when Joy acts like a boar and mows over people as they try to talk.

Maybe they should be sent to Charm School a la the girls from Flavor of Love II.
