Excuse me for a minute while I comment on the evergrowing weirdness of celeb reality TV. I made the mistake of watching about ten minutes of Work Out about the gym in Los Angeles featured on Bravo. I saw the ten minutes where the main character (Jackie) makes out with one of her female employees named Rebecca, her other employees get freaked out, and then Jackie's other date arrives. Jackie then drops Rebecca and the drama of her employees wondering why she is trying to date her employee Rebecca is dropped for the shock of Jackie ditching her for the new date. This is all in a sushi bar restaurant that just happens to be mostly empty??

There was lots of Lesbian making out after that and dissing of Andre because he was outraged at the way Jackie was treating people. He must have some kind of friendship with Jackie off camera because the rest of her staff seemed afraid to say anything. The show then spent about five minutes on how Andre was just unmanned by Jackie's 'prowess'. Apparently Jackie gets whomever she wants gay or straight, and Andre just can't deal with that, huh. OKAY. I had to leave the show when they started the lesbian making out-not my cup of tea. Obviously the show is geared towards men and lesbians. Thereby leaving people like me out of the loop of interest.
I was left with the impression of a show that was seriously striving for ratings, I didn't believe for a minute that Rebecca really wanted Jackie, that Andre was really pissed, or that the second date was an old flame that was done, up until the night she stopped off at the restaurant. And Jackie said she wasn't expecting the girl either, huh? She didn't act like she wasn't expecting her or that their relationship was over. It was all too staged for me.
What I don't know is why anyone would want to watch the show, all the people including Jackie are attractive and seem interesting enough, but really, the show is flat. I would rather watch a drama with the people from the L.A. club who train real celebrities. I know my sister used to there.. this show just reminds me of the Real World Las Vegas, where the MTV show turned from fun everyday people living together into a three ring circus of make outs, fake fights, staged threesomes, and treachery?
Eh. It was good for that season, but the show lost it's verve after that.. the B-grade actors they pulled in left an indelible mark on the memory of the show to the point now where most of them have regular Hollywood careers-not A list careers but they work. I tried tuning into the show recently and found it to be just disgusting...if you wonder why-check out E!'s the soup with Joel McHale on Friday nights at 10:00 pm for the hit list of why the show is going down the tubes. AND when are they going to do one in DC??? HUH? I want a DC show, so I can go crash their house and get my ten minutes of fame. :)
And now I will apologize because I have to admit I did watch 'I love New York' on VH1. The season just ended and while I never wasted time watching it the first time each episode was aired, why would I? But the show is strangely entrancing, I've never seen so many male hoes. And I love trying to figure out who is actually just a musician or actor trying to make it. Some of the men are just crazy, I think Romance may actually be crazy and a wannabe something..I just can't figure out what.. 12 pack is looking for work as an Actor, please. And White Boy! He is the most hilarious person, he totally reminds me of people I know here in DC.
I never watched Flavor of Love, there's just something gross about those yucky women trying to get with Flavor Flav. Really, he looks dirty to me and makes me feel sick when I think of him getting romantic with anyone or anything. He might he a nice person, but ewwwww. So when the network said they were introducing a new show with New York I thought they were crazy, but actually....well I'm completely convinced that She is not a real person who went on a reality show but an actress that made her way by being crazy on the first season of Flavor Flav.
She has too many moments where she pulls a charismatic act, and then goes street on people too fast, she probably is crazy, most actors are, but I don't believe her. This finale show of I love New York was great. The funniest part was when Mr. Boston brought out his friend Ben who dresses up as him and tries to get chicks, and the Pumpkin bit? It's so obvious that Pumpkin must be an actress too, I have no idea what Mr. Boston is trying for, maybe to leave his 6 figure job for something more in Hollywood. Although I would not be surprised if they are actually dating, if you don't know what I mean-watch the finale show with La La, it will be run at least ten times on VH1.
Jerry Springer is launching a reality show that lets you in on what the producers tell people to get them to act crazy on the show, I have a feeling something like that goes on before the Flavor of Love shows and maybe I love New York-throw in some plant actors and you have craziness for the masses.
At least when I watch I love New York it's so over the top, I know it's all for entertainment whereas when I watched Jerry Springer once or twice in the 90's I felt sickeningly sure that a lot of the people really were just trailer trash.
Anyways, I just wonder why people want to watch this stuff, I mean why am I watching it? I don't know, I Love New York brought in 4 million viewers, I think maybe it's because the idea of this crazy woman dating all these man hoes is so novel, not the like the Bachelorette at all. It was really interesting....and I was drawn in, whether I liked it or not. At least you can say there was a 'Freemarket' mentality to who New York picked..
