Britney Spears-The Album goes on....

Britney Spears officially lost her kids for the second time today and go figure her song 'Gimme More' is number 3 on the billboard charts. Irony, it really seems like she did not want to keep her kids, as if it was just too much to take care of them anymore...her behavior would all seem like a calculated cry for help except that she does not seem to want any...or maybe she has??? She has a reason to be angry if you consider that her Dad is an alcoholic and her Mom allowed her to be prostituted out to sell albums before she was 18...really....just think about it. Chances are if she just dealt with those issues she would stop drinking and doing drugs and being scarily comfortable acting like a very needy girl who lets people take advantage of her.

Second, in a sense her problems with Kevin Federline seem fair if one considers that she knowingly took up with a man who had another woman pregnant with his second kid! Sure she didn't know at first on her tour in 2004 when she met him... but then she did find out a few months later in the Spring of 2004 and it bothered her enough that she was crying about it in public, see Us Weekly magazines from that time. Yet she continued on anyways with Kevin Federline..in a way maybe she did Shar Jackson a favor by taking him out of a relationship with Jackson...of course Kevin is the one who left Jackson. And it was Jackson who then ended up being the savior that took care of Britney's kids while she was in rehab because you know Kevin Federline isn't really taking care of them....and still isn't now..I hope he's sharing some divorce money with Jackson...especially after leaving her to carry out her pregnancy alone...

KF is an interesting guy running from one rich woman to the next, getting them pregnant and moving on...makes you wonder who he will impregnate and get money from next...

Anyways, so if you haven't figured this out, You Tube is full of clips about Britney Spears with everything from a clip called Britney stoned to pictures of Britney with the song 'Love Stoned' by Justin Timberlake running...and every song from her album set to youtuber montages of her and the official 'Gimme More' video. Really, I've put a number of songs on here, but I think if you have the time, you can hear her whole album. The entire album is on You Tube at this point..and it seems to be doing well by the views per video. The Gimme More video is badly shot, seriously it skips all the sexy moves that she does..which I thought was the point of the video..maybe because they don't look very sexy at the time. Also, the shots with her 'blonde' personality don't make sense without some explanation........obviously she considers her 'brunette' self to be more sexy....since that is the on at the stripper pole...hmmm.

One song sticks out called 'Love is a State of Grace', it's very catchy...and well made..hope it's not about Kevin Federline. Do you think anyone in her circle knows what the meaning of 'state of grace' means in Christian terms??? The youtube video for this song is a little scary- there are several youtube videos where they portray Britney Spears in a way that makes one feel as if they are at her funeral or memorial....

The song Baby Boy is complete with a Kevin Federline look alike...it's actually depressing, it seems like she still likes him, or wants people to think that for marketing reasons, to sell albums.

'Cold as Ice'
is very close in sound and quality to Fergie's song Fergilicious...also she says the F-word...Now Miss Britney that's not very nice. Her voice is so high, the song sounds a little too high and girly....with some weird notes..but I can see the song being popular, it's really catchy...'I'm cold as fire, hot as ice, if you never been to heaven, this is twice as nice.'

Really? Sometimes the music seems weird because she is not the cute little tiny Britney she once was....she's a woman who has had two kids with a scuzzy ex husband. Check out the transformation in this youtube video that goes with the song from her album 'Let Me Be'...wonder what that's about???

Here is an interesting Eurthymics riffed song called 'Everybody' from Britney's new album. I was always a sucker for the original, although this new song is just about dancing and being turned on...like most Britney songs. And there are no truth scorching ideas being relayed in the lyrics of the song.

'Piece of Me' is harsh, she's definitely mad the the paparazzi, the thing is, didn't she realize that she would end up with this kind of attention when she set out to be a star??? She apparently tried to get a job as a bartender again...it seems like she just wants to be normal again...and maybe would not have pursued fame if she had to do it all again....

And she is rapping now...like Kevin? I hope he did not write this song. It Feels Nice ...
There are some weird street references that just don't fit the whole Britney Spears persona..although with her problems lately...maybe it's not that strange. Also this song has some very raw recording sounds and mixing....that are not in line with the polished work she has done before.....

'You're Heaven on Earth'
So I have figured out why I like this album, it's very Depeche Mode, 80's and industrial influenced...don't get me wrong, it's still pop, but these elements are there...it's too bad she put this out now when it doesn't seem to matter because she is crazy....maybe she will get over it, maybe she is having the childhood she never got, but that doesn't seem to be something that has worked out well for other celebrities...say for example: Michael Jackson?

Give Posh A Chance!

Sorry with all three blogs going and the one on Politics booming, and hand surgery this blog is going down fast.
I just wanted to comment that I found the new show on Posh Beckham that ran for an hour last night on NBC to be funny. She's obviously smarter than Paris since she made her way on her own and worked for it first in a girl band. And I think her 'major' life is what makes the show funny, she knows she is funny and that her life is a bit ridiculous to regular people-that's charming.

Don't kid yourself Americans like watching celebrities up close, we just don't like ones that are completely unaware and well...just clueless. As an example: I've just come to the conclusion that Paris Hilton is functionally retarded, and the joke is on us because the American public believes she is functional.

This show on Posh is just better suited to a cable channel, the birthplace of reality tv anyways. Maybe E! or VH1 could have run it and done it better.

Ordinary People Ordinary Non Heroes

This article and its' quote below go rather well with my previous post.
The "Great Man" theory of history is usually attributed to the Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle, who wrote that "the history of the world is but the biography of great men." He believed that it is the few, the powerful and the famous who shape our collective destiny as a species. That theory took a serious beating this year.

Oh and this is such a relief, FINALLY! No more of that stupid twit. Actually, I'm starting to think she is the Rose Kennedy of the Hilton family and they have just had us duped this whole time.

An Unmighty Heart.

This recent deridment of the film a Might Heart was interesting, but I can't quite feel sympathy for Asra Q. Nomani who says that she signed off on the film and gave approval because she was 'seduced by Hollywood.' It's not much of an excuse for letting them take a person you loved and cared about-be used as a vehicle for two very egotistical actors to make themselves some money and feel self important.

I would have believed better and more fully that it was an ego boost to be wooed by Hollywood but much more importantly, when Mariane sold the rights to her book, she sold her right to control the way Daniel Pearl was presented. And thereby, the author of the article above never really had a say in how her former friend was presented because it was Mariane's choice.

A common and overlooked issue in Hollywood is that most writer's of scripts or even the book writers have no real say in how the final product turns out. That is up to the Producers and the Director. Some writers do fight for more control and usually end up with a swift kick in the face once the product was sold. As one co-worker at E! Entertainment told me there is a struggle usually for the integrity of the piece 'the writer says this is my script! And the Director says but this is MY MOVIE.' And if the writer wants to continue working they shut up and take it most of the time, it takes years of work and investment to have a say in how the script and movie finally turn out for the writers.

It was a major reason why I never wanted to work in Hollywood, there is nothing worse for a writer than sweating and bleeding over a piece to see it get chopped up. Although the money can be nice and for the starved, an ample treat.

My point is at least Asra Q. Nomani of this piece did stop to state that it was a vehicle for the once entertaining now annoying Saint Angelina Jolie to once again feel self important and promote her work with the U.N. And at least she stood up to say it missed the most important points about this man that made him so charismatic and important to those who knew him.

I can't help but think though that a further investigation into this death is fruitless. He was killed by Islamic fascists who hated him for being a Jew and an American, it's pretty clear. That's it, any further digging will reveal nothing more, but may in fact make those doing the searching feel more horrible and lost at the horror of someone being snatched up and killed.

I am being tough but I think it's also impotant to remember that he was taking his life in his hands and some would say being irresponsible by leaving his wife while pregnant, to chase down terrorists. On the other hand, we need good journalists to take risks to get good information for the public back home.

One upside is that Mariane should be set for life and able to take good care of Pearl's son with the money from the book and film.

Passion, Food, and Ugh the Slugsmiths.

So I watched a little of Passions yesterday being the stay at home writer that I am..this was once a great soap for me in college. But somewhere between the Tabitha story lines and the annoying plot line of Teresa and that guy she loves but can't have... I stopped.

The Soup guy Joel McHale said the show is set to go off the air in two months on last week's show, which would explain the weirdness of the plotlines at this point. They've got a double gender muderous psychopath, who obviously has too much time on his/her hands to shop for costumes, and a gay guy(Chad) that commited adultery with another man, who wants to go back to his now estranged wife?

Really, can we just stop the Chad plotline here, never in all the soaps I have watched in my sick day/summertime life have I ever seen one that tried to make a plot where the adulterous person returns to their partner without some reason that basically cancels out the reason for the affair in the first place.

Seriously, just look at Days of Our Lives, they have been on for years, they don't employ weird witch plots and strange characters nearly as much as Passions and they have been on a lot longer. Go figure. There was a short demon posession series in the late 90's and there is always Stefano Dimera. But more importantly when their characters have affairs it's always under the excuse of brainwashing, blackmail, drug induced, or the result of being somehow not in control of their faculties. It's weird, it's far fetched, it's not even plausible, but at least it's not a plot where the character in question cheated because they really enjoyed sex with someone other than their partner while being fully cognizant. That just makes the point of reconcilliatin pointless for me and I suspect most viewers. Really, Writers do something else with this plot.

The plot would make more sense at this point if Chad just left Whitney and moved in with his lover in a cottage next to Tabitha by the sea. Oh and Ivy is getting back with Julian?? Huh, that's so weird after the last 8 years, they were fun in the beginning of the show.

I think this explains more, apparently the Chad character will not be continuing with the show.
'PASSIONS' ACTORS MAKE THE SWITCH TO DIRECTV

BURBANK – MAY 23, 2007 – NBC Universal Television Studio has signed principal cast members of the hit daytime drama "Passions" to new contracts, ensuring that they will continue with the soap when it makes the move from NBC to The 101 on DIRECTV on September 17.

Those continuing with the series include: Eric Martsolf (Ethan), Ben Masters (Julian), Kim Johnston Ulrich (Ivy), Dylan Fergus (Noah), Galen Gering (Luis), Emily Harper (Fancy), Lindsay Hartley (Theresa), Liza Huber (Gwen), James Hyde (Sam), Juliet Mills (Tabitha), Heidi Mueller (Kay), Tracey Ross (Eve), Eva Tamargo (Pilar), McKenzie Westmore ("Sheridan") and Erin Cardillo (Esme).

Moving on-why is Fox News now name dropping food brands to viewers in the middle of broadcasts? I'm in the gym working out watching Fox and Neil Cavuto told me, well and the audience, to go get a Cinnabon and relax. Uh, okay. Can't I just get a snack?

Only a few minutes earlier, Shepard Smith told me to go get some popcorn. Either this network is really into people becoming couch potatoes and watching their shows or they are getting lots of ad money to name drop products to viewers, especially food products.

And here is my final thought, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, those annoying people from that MTV show The Hills just won't go the %^$^@ away! Their dumb, boring, and annoying people. Oh what the hey, I'd probably like them if they would just stop it! I've decided to name them the Slugsmiths, I mean they want to act like a happy married couple and all! They keep showing up in US Weekly and I'm pretty sure it's because they are getting publicity because someone is paid to get it for them... I'm just trying to figure out who is paying, MTV? Gatorade? A tidbit just ran saying they were drinking it...their own parents?? Whatever the case, I can't wait until the money runs out and space is made for more interesting people in this magazine.

Rihanna: Good Girl Gone Bad

So I have been sick and recovering from a series spider bites, very gross and painful, which have led me to look into moving from my current apartment. It's such a pain in the mental sense, mold, dust and pollen, and super mean spiders all on my first floor apartment..

Anyways, so I have this thought that I have been mulling over since I first saw Rihanna's video for her song 'Umbrella' which she also performed at the MTV Movie Awards. The footage shot at the shows was pretty bad, it cut off most of the dance moves and was hard to watch-like there's a part where she's obviously shaking her hips for the audience and you can't see what she's doing, you have to just guess from the look on her face that it's something special??

Eh, So here is the something that I have been pondering now that you have seen her video or at least one performance of the song. Why are the clothes S&M with lots of black and men running around in night army gear in the video?? The song for the most part is really upbeat and cutesy-she does wear black ballet point shoes in the video, what is the underlying point?

Is it to highlight Jay'Z's gold sneakers? Is it to make everyone look more sexy? Is it to emphasize that Rihanna is tough and not just a good girl anymore?? Is it just to look cool and avant garde?? I think all of the above and then some-

I think the point is to highlight that the song is not really so happy go lucky, at one point the lyrics say 'when the world has broke you apart, when the world has dealt it's cards, we'll stand together, I'll mend your heart.' I think the black is to symbolize that life is tough, the losses can be higher than the gains, no matter how great your life turns out. So, to say to someone I'll be there no matter what is a very serious and sobering thought. And depending on your life, this song highlights a complicated life, it can be very painful and hard to be there with someone through the very serious 'rain' in life.

ihasahuh??

There is a new fad in town, and one that I love very much, it is described in this article.
It's basically a tech geek fad combined with animal loving. I first got in touch with the fad through this website www.ihasabucket.com. The fad has become so popular that there is even a facebook group that is all about ihasabucket jokes and pictures. Most of the best pictures are of a walrus and cats, but there are pictures of the President, a rather funny satire of Al Gore and his loss in 2000, and even pictures of babies.

At this time I find that I end up changing my screensaver all the time so I can always have a fresh and funny picture of something from the ihasabucket cache. I highly recommend checking it out, because it's actually a great mood elevator.

Hilary Books

This drudge report posted article, about Hilary Clinton's relationship with her husband seems to be dead on about her personality.
"The Post said Mrs Clinton emerges as a "complicated, sometimes compromised figure who tolerated Bill Clinton's brazen infidelity, pursued her policy and political goals with methodical drive".

What I am confused about is why the Left and especially the New York Times is trying to hurt the Senator's chances in the Presidential race. She is their best option. Maybe it's backlash because she voted for the war?

The New York Times writer for Her Way seems to have it in her for 'her way' to the Whitehouse. At least I would think that if I believed the articles from the Washington Post and those on Drudge.

The View 05/24/07- Rosie and Joy loose their minds

http://abc.go.com/fsp/index.html
If you haven't seen today's episode of the View you should use the link above to watch it. Basically, Joy Behar goes off on the President, calls for his resignation and asks Al Gore to run while ranting all the time. Elizabeth Hasslebeck got angry and soon Rosie O'Donnell was into the argument as well. It looked tense but also funny.

This is the space where I would like to thank Rosie O'Donnell and Joy Behar for helping the Republicans win the next election for President. Their angry ranting devoid of any understanding of policy or specific situations only alienates voters from the left. In other words, Joy Behar demanding people watch Al Gore on CNN as he promotes his book and and business is nothing but a turn off to moderate voters. And more importantly, the ranting of those two against the President does nothing but make the left look bad.

Really, the co-host Cheri Shepard pointed out and this is true whatever mistakes the President made, and if you think Al Gore never made any in his job as Vice President you are sadly mistaken, 'he didn't sleep with an intern' about Bill Clinton as a contrast to President Bush and Joy Behar replied 'well maybe he should have-'. Huh? That statement only demonstrates the reasons Americans are uncomfortable with the Left. They may not be cool with the Republicans all the time, I personally did not like the Harriet Miers escapade in 2006, but the liberals are so out of touch with reality in their accusations that it's obvious they have nothing in common with regular people. It's Hollywooditis I think..

Joy Behar opened with a statement about all the things she didn't like about the President, not realizing that they are all things that have been explained or resolved. I don't know why the opinion of Jimmy Carter and Al Gore who are both Democrats-that obviously don't agree with Republicans should be considered experts to decide who should be in office and who should be out? But Joy Behar apparently thinks so..

I can agree with the statement that Alberto Gonzalez should be out of office by now. Then again, I think most people who have followed the situation think that too. Worse even, is that Rosie O'Donnell lost it and she is angry, she blames Elizabeth Hasslebeck for egging her into saying that 9/11 was a government conspiracy. A statement that did nothing but destroy her credibility and probably led to her job loss. Maybe EH isn't responsible and didn't really egg her into it, but that is the perception of the event. It was crazy to listen to Rosie say she wanted to state her opinions and then go back to doing what Elizabeth Hasslebeck accused her of by continuing to try and use E.H. as someone to bounce them off of.... eck.

The media has not portrayed Rosie as a big mean Lesbian, she's done that all on her own, I haven't even heard anyone say that unless you count radio shows in the morning who make everyone look bad. The worst part is that as they were fighting Cheri Shepard was saying 'this is why I like to watch Dancing with the Stars'. And the audience who started out cheering for people as they fought began to cheer for Cheri's statement - the arguing just got old.

More so, it's just way too obvious that there were a lot of hurt feelings on the set about friendships over political arguments. And when EH started to fight back by referencing Rosie's fight with Donald Trump she either accessed the fact that Rosie is not even keeled or likes to get attention by figthing in the headlines or both. Either way, I came out of it thinking Rosie is nuts. And even that maybe Joy was trying to state ideas for Rosie's benefit that Rosie no longer felt comfortable saying, but cannot stop.

What is very clear is that the Liberals about two years ago repeated the mistake that the Republicans made in the 90's. We had Clinton derangement syndrome, I admit I personally suffered, and apologize now for the way I behaved when I was younger and more wily. . Well the Left obviously has it now and needs help. Stop ranting, stop raving about things that are done, stop making wild accusations.

What is so sad is that the View used to be this cute show. The hosts were like the Spice Girls, Barbara was older sophisticated spice, Joy was Italian big city liberal mama spice, Elizabeth was young mommy conservative spice, and I don't know where Rosie fit into that.. they used to be fun and good natured. The show was fun and they all addressed politics but it was very light. The show today makes you miss Meredith Viera. No wonder they wanted her at the Today show, she's such a professional upbeat presence.

McCain-Kennedy Bill

Today at 6:00 pm the U.S. Senate reached an agreement on the so called Amnesty bill. This bill would allow many illegal immigrants to stay in this country and apply for the Z-visa. This is the bill that Mitt Romney referred to in the debate on Tuesday night-the infamous McCain-Kennedy proposal.

Senator Jon Kyl was just on Hannity and Colmes and he did confirm that the bill does offer amnesty. This bill could hit McCain hard since the bill seems to treat the immigration issue as if the U.S. had no control over the problem. It's really weird, the bill offers amnesty with a variety of easily removed restrictions. I really just don't get it, and apparently I'm not alone.

I know the Democrats have been fired up by the Hollywood contingent on this issue. I say that because everyone from Newsweek, to Cosmopolitan, US Weekly has covered the fact that Adrienne Shelly was killed by a mexican illegal immigrant last Fall. Shelly was a well respected Hollywood actress and director, with a family, living in New York when she was brutually murdered. Her death fired up many people in that community on the issue of managing immigrants as I can't imagine a lot of the Hollywood Liberals wanted them sent home. Oh no, who would clean their mansions? And then there are the Republicans.

It's true that the Republicans have been worried about alienating hispanic voters by not being 'fair' enough. Who I guess they assume are mostly not legal themselves? There is a very strong lobby by the commerce minded groups to keep the illegals here and free to work. I have to wonder if any campaign contributions were made to grease the wheels of this piece of legislation. It just makes the party look sketchy for rushing the bill and Sen. McCain will probably pay for sponsoring this bill with his campaign for President.

Excuse me, while I go all Tancredo on this issue. There is no reason that all the illegal immigrants could not be rounded up, the border clamped down, and the criminals sent home. It seems that the politicians are so happy to pander to voters that they are not thinking with their heads on either side. The businesses want the immigrants and the illegals want to stay? Who cares about the long term effects or what happens to the current citizens of this country or the message it sends to the rest of the world.

This bill treats our own government like it was helpless and inept. Oh, well, maybe that's the message, that the U.S. Government is so uselss it can't even manage the job of removing illegal immigrants from this country. In fact, it's not the job of removing them that has kept our own government from taking action but, the wonderful dollars that come from the business lobby. And so, we should offer the illegals enticement packages so we can provide for them better? I know it's not so we can scoop them up and send them home.

What really makes me angry is that our country should reserve space for refugees and those who are willing to wait in line with respect to become citizens of this country. We are selling out our own values and ourselves if we continue in this same vein of behavior with illegal immigration.

Who knows? Maybe I will be wrong, maybe this Z-visa and it's requirements will work. Maybe. Right now, I am not feeling hopeful.

Dating and Fashion have nothing to do with Political Party

I have to say it really annoys me when I read these articles. The Politico did one a few months ago when they argued about who was the more attractivly dressed political party. And I understand the desire to debate the issue. I mean it's so much less stressful than talking about terrorism.

But the reality is that people in politics do not generally dress well period. We worry about looking trustworthy and responsible, unless you are Jessica Cutler than you worry about looking 'hot' in the cheapest sense of the word. I say we do not dress well because compared to the other major cities we are just boring here inside the beltway.

I came here 5 years ago with the determined opinion that I would dress in my own style but try to tone it down for the city. I found things have loosened up, it happened about 2 years ago, long before the Dems were in Congress. Sorry! I think it has more to do with my generation being more conscious of trends and taking more time to dress in a fashionable manner. Also, in 2005 Condoleeza Rice made the boldest change and statement by wearing a fabulous suit to France that inspired oohs, aaahs, and hey that looks like something from the Matrix, statements.

It made the point to the city and the country that a woman can dress well and be respectable. I think a lot of Republican women dress better because they try to dress in a classy feminine manner. They actually worry that if they don't dress 'up' so to speak that they will get confused with the wrong party. Everybody knows that a certain number of liberal women dress down in order to 'fight the male power' it means that some staffers show up in outfits that fit my college days better than working in a congressional office. So the republican women make their preference known by dressing up more, that doesn't save us from those who are just downright dowdy.

Some women in DC just don't have taste no matter the political party and feel safest in boring, too big, blag clothes. Then there are the men, most men just don't dress well on their own, republican men wear suits a lot, they like their red ties and white shirts. I find Democrats can dress that way or occasionally the men show up dressed like the lead singer of the 'Killers.' It's not a bad thing but I have to say it is confusing since your dress should show respect for the people you are speaking to or working for? And then there are the men who favor 'Stetsons' who almost always dress well for obvious reasons.

Eh, I myself as a libertarian conservative find myself walking the line all the time, but when I go to a meeting, I put on a suit and I try to pull back on the accessories. You know who dresses well and always has in DC? Lobbyists. You know who has lots of freedom and dress in all sorts of varities of clothing? Journalists. Yep.

I can say that fashion for men has gotten noticeably better as more men sport the 'pink' ties and show more comfort in that part of their wardrobe. Even the Heritage Foundation has introduced a think tank centric pink tie.

The truth of the matter is that certain individuals dress well and they influence those around them, as people in the spotlight have loosened up and dressed in a more fashionable manner so have the worker bees. Most importantly, we all know someone who dresses well and makes it work for their job, and for me it seems to be regardless of party and has more to do with the person.

Just last week-end someone asked me why I was dressed up, and I said 'because it makes me happy'. I actually thought the outfit was just right for what I was doing at the time, and the person doing the asking was significantly more relaxed. So in the end, I think saying someone's style of dress is about their political party-saying Dems dress better: is a matter of taste, BIAS of the media and liberals, and well dumb. Really.

So-onto dating, this is easy, I dated several liberals before I married a conservative man. All the liberal men cheated on me, while they were super fun, they were nothing but short lived. I'm sure there are some nice liberal men out there who are good in relationships, but I've only met one to this date.

I think when you throw new people on the hill, it's like open season-fresh meat as they say and no matter the political party, things are more interesting-for a minute. I think players always have women to play with and how you dress, your age, and position mean more than party. It's true I think women might in the begining like a guy who is high up on a committee, but that would be for the Dem girls at this time. I can tell you the Republican women at this time are more likely to be annoyed at the newly positioned Democrat men, not turned on... And as far as I can tell Men never seem to care about political party and always about other things first, like personality and yes, looks.

And as far as getting better tables, I haven't had any problems getting good tables. But that's because I treat the restaurant staff well. Maybe a name drop helps in getting a good table for the Dems. But what about all the Republicans in the White House, I know for a fact they still get special treatment. Any seasoned DC businessperson knows that tables switch very fast in this town and treating one group with too much of a preference at the pricey joints is a bad idea. There have been certain establishments that catered to a group like 'Signatures' but that was owned by a lobbyist and for his clients. You see there was no business person trying to weather the decades of this city in charge. And the bars on the Hill? Well they are subject to the fact that they take whatever crowd is at the bar stool, doesn't matter. In fact what matters there is your relationship to the bartender and how you present yourself, note: don't annoy them.

So what I am trying to say is that clothing, dates, service all really depend on the person wearing, doing and receiving them. How you behave has more affect than your political party and of course money always talks.

Despearte, Fake, Beauty, and Paris?

(This post was written on Sunday of this week.)
So, I am watching the second to last episode of Desperate Housewives, it is a good comeback at the end of the season. There were just so many breaks this year, I guess due to Marcia Cross's babies, but it actually got me just plain not watching anymore for awhile. I am so into the last episode that I am taking time from my vacation at a fabulous resort next week-end to watch it.

Sooo, I love that Us Weekly has started addressing their less fact conscious competiton, In Touch and Life and Style. They have started a section called the 'Fake' news, I only wish they would start something for themselves like the 'filler' section. They could then practice a mea culpa for making people look at pictures of morons like Spencer and Heidi Montag from The Hills.

The fact is, neither of them have any real work, in fact they don't work for a living. Despite all their parent's money for stylists, coaches or whatever, the completely human draining lives they lead have taken any and all charismatic qualities from them. You have to have something internal that is compelling to be a true star.

I think I heard Tyra Banks talk about it a million times in the ANTM marathon yesterday! Love it! It's true, I didn't know people in Hollywood thought that way, but it's the making of a celebrity. Please, her boyfriend is an idiot who does not work for a living and when he does, if he does it will be due to a favor or bought. And it's already been establised in multiple interviews and a TV show that he is an uncharismatic unlikeable person.

And in the end, I just don't care that yet again Heidi Montag is too stupid to stop being a domestic abuse victim in the press for all the world to see..nothing makes a person less cool than if their first foray into the public light only shows low self-esteem, bad judgement and a treacherous personality. I don't care if her boyfriend called up the paparazzi to see him do push ups while she sits on his back to show off her new nose and boobs at the beach-this apparently was a good idea to the people at Us Weekly. WRONG

They are unlikeable people. This is important, no more coverage of unemployed or barely employed rich people who have no education or goals and grew up in Hollywood. It's old.
Yes I know it worked to put Paris up and Nicole to entertain the public, but they had a show at the time. Today, Nicole gets in trouble for DUI's a lot which fufills a schaedenfraud quota and dates a reasonably well known musician. OH and she has a show which she stars in... ya know.

Paris is not good to cover as E! did a poll for 2007 that voted her the #1 person America would like to hear less about, and it's true, morbid drug enduced stupidity, brattiness and sluttiness in a famous person who lives in Hollywood, is only entertaining for so long. Really, the best part of Paris' news this week is that it meant someone was finally taking her in hand to teach her how to be a human.

May, Us Weekly Comments

Entourage Season 3

Short thoughts, on Entourage
I notice more clearly in this season that Ari is really a mirror image of Vince. He is smarter a professional and married with a family. But he takes risks, is supposed to be more passionate and committed to projects than other people in his profession.

What's really interesting to me is in the Sorry Ari episode it is Vince's mistakes and childish behavior that ultimately cost Vince his career and relationship with Ari. He rejects scripts, tells off the entire industry that made him rich, and is lazy than blames his frustrated agent. Ari's character is rightfully put off from working harder for him because he has stopped expressing interest. And Ari's only mistake is really Vince's fault ultimately for putting Ari in that position.

BTW-I love the part where the Dana Gordon character says 'Put your hands on me, I scream rape' when the security tries to usher her out of her office.

No more Rosie

So today it was announced and I am sure you have already heard that Rosie O'Donnell will not be staying with the view. The network said they wanted three years for a contract, she wanted one and there was a mention of too much money being asked for-Barbara Walters has nothing to do with it...supposedly, but she is 50% of the show so I don't know how that works..

I'm convinced it has to do with the fact that while she raised ratings, I don't think she raised them in the kind of way that would bring in more sponsors and it was a only a matter of time before she dropped something really big-the 9/11 conspiracy by our government was pretty bad, but it can get worse. And then what do you do when your current sponsors leave? Uh oh.

It's been obvious something was up, she was way too nice to Elizabeth Hasslebeck this week. I thought maybe they just dropped the show drama of Rosie being a bully, but..that doesn't seem realistic.

Also, if you watched Barbara in recent weeks she looked like she was going to loose her mind if Rosie didn't get less belligerent and indiscreet. Really, she was spouting bad information all the time and her put down on EH last week over abortion was really weird . I also know no one at a major network wants a show that gets people riled in the blogosphere the way she was..the execs still remember Dan Rather's lesson from 2004. Booyah!

Oh well, I suppose she will go back to her life and a new show soon, and I will learn to like her more again like I did when she was on her talk show in the 90's and crooned over Tom Cruise. Ock, there's another one that makes me feel gross to look at now.

Jokes on you! Heid and Spence and the prolific nature of Dave Chappelle

Let's start with Dave Chappelle, I just watched the Negrodomus skit from the second season of the Dave Chappelle show-does anyone remember the part where Negrodomous predicts Rosie O'Donnell will become a man marry Liza Minnelli's husband and beat him? It seems better now, and then Negrodomus predicts that Star Jones will have two jobs one on the View, take her wig off and do the weather.
Well Star Jones certainly changed her entire appearance since then and now she is not on the View at all...Hmmmm? Coincidence I think not.

Now let us get into the newest edition of Us Weekly in which as a sidebar article, and I say that because it is one of the last I read after the ones on people's clothes no less. The article to which I refer is called Heidi and Spencer 'Their side of the Story.' Huh? I don't care what their side of the story is? Didn't they get the memo? There just tools for MTV to use to further the show The Hills and their star Lauren Conrad. (Sorry MTV, I didn't mean to ruin anything, but don't worry no one who reads this will be surprised anyways.)

Really, many of my friends have spent many a great minute laughing at Spencer or talking about what an !@#$U^# he is...and then moved on because guess what? It's a show that is obviously scripted for the entertainment of TEENAGERS. And the rest of us, and by that I mean those of us who work for a LIVING, don't have our parent's handing us money, cannot pay people to style us and work us out (but still look good anyways because we can read), went to college, and have actual goals that mean something to the world and not just ourselves. Ugh, and that's just those of us in DC who are average. Don't get me started on the brainiac world changers because they make me feel mediocore.

Oops, did that sound mean? Well it's the truth, this show is for our entertainment and that's it, the self importance these two put into their article is ridiculous, they just don't get that there's a joke here and it's them. I would have to say Lauren Conrad does well only because she doesn't seem to take it too seriously and she seems earnest more than anything else. I have no problem believing that Heidi is a dumb girl who is happy to be controlled by this guy.

Seriously, she got a boob job and rhinoplasty because of him and she doesn't need either, the guy called himself 'the world's greatest boyfriend. ' Wow, dummy, she's supposed so say that about you, not you about yourself. That's okay, it makes us laugh. The best part of the article is when Heidi says she never made Lauren pick between Jason (who is in jail for beating people up, good one, looser). Uh, wait a second, didn't Lauren dump him? And he never tried to drive you away from her, like Spence did, eh?

I can totally buy that these two were playing games with each other, except Heidi was a total bitch to Audrina like she took it very seriously. If they were playing games you think she would have clued Audrina in instead of making her cry for being a friend. Huh, unless Heidi is just as gross as Spence....hmmm.

And why am I supposed to believe that because Heidi 'didn't call Lauren' when her sex tape broke that she didn't leak it, huh. Was she high when she thought of that logic? Maybe it was the same logic that lead Spence to dress in a count as Vampire outfit for his picture with Heidi for Us Weekly with drinks in their hands??? :)

And best yet is when Spence says 'Lauren couldn't get into clubs before she met us!' Really, she couldn't get into clubs but she got a show on MTV that she stars in and you two will probably not be apart of because you are too stupid to realize how unimportant all this bickering is, because you are too bored, too dumb, and need to be stuck in the real world without a credit card for awhile-to value friendships or people.

And I have to end with this, Spence looked like a @#$%@#%& in the show because he is a %*@!&%*, and Heidi looks dumb, because she is, there are just some parts of the show that come through the script.

In the end, it's all just great entertainment, I don't care if Lauren has a sex tape, she was dumb to make it. And I laugh as Spence and Heidi continue to spin not realizing no one cares if they are really nice people because they probably aren't and their spot on the show was small and entertaining.. really.

People who are just not appealing..

Work out to I love New York

Excuse me for a minute while I comment on the evergrowing weirdness of celeb reality TV. I made the mistake of watching about ten minutes of Work Out about the gym in Los Angeles featured on Bravo. I saw the ten minutes where the main character (Jackie) makes out with one of her female employees named Rebecca, her other employees get freaked out, and then Jackie's other date arrives. Jackie then drops Rebecca and the drama of her employees wondering why she is trying to date her employee Rebecca is dropped for the shock of Jackie ditching her for the new date. This is all in a sushi bar restaurant that just happens to be mostly empty??
http://www.bravotv.com/Work_Out/index.shtml

There was lots of Lesbian making out after that and dissing of Andre because he was outraged at the way Jackie was treating people. He must have some kind of friendship with Jackie off camera because the rest of her staff seemed afraid to say anything. The show then spent about five minutes on how Andre was just unmanned by Jackie's 'prowess'. Apparently Jackie gets whomever she wants gay or straight, and Andre just can't deal with that, huh. OKAY. I had to leave the show when they started the lesbian making out-not my cup of tea. Obviously the show is geared towards men and lesbians. Thereby leaving people like me out of the loop of interest.

I was left with the impression of a show that was seriously striving for ratings, I didn't believe for a minute that Rebecca really wanted Jackie, that Andre was really pissed, or that the second date was an old flame that was done, up until the night she stopped off at the restaurant. And Jackie said she wasn't expecting the girl either, huh? She didn't act like she wasn't expecting her or that their relationship was over. It was all too staged for me.

What I don't know is why anyone would want to watch the show, all the people including Jackie are attractive and seem interesting enough, but really, the show is flat. I would rather watch a drama with the people from the L.A. club who train real celebrities. I know my sister used to there.. this show just reminds me of the Real World Las Vegas, where the MTV show turned from fun everyday people living together into a three ring circus of make outs, fake fights, staged threesomes, and treachery?

Eh. It was good for that season, but the show lost it's verve after that.. the B-grade actors they pulled in left an indelible mark on the memory of the show to the point now where most of them have regular Hollywood careers-not A list careers but they work. I tried tuning into the show recently and found it to be just disgusting...if you wonder why-check out E!'s the soup with Joel McHale on Friday nights at 10:00 pm for the hit list of why the show is going down the tubes. AND when are they going to do one in DC??? HUH? I want a DC show, so I can go crash their house and get my ten minutes of fame. :)

And now I will apologize because I have to admit I did watch 'I love New York' on VH1. The season just ended and while I never wasted time watching it the first time each episode was aired, why would I? But the show is strangely entrancing, I've never seen so many male hoes. And I love trying to figure out who is actually just a musician or actor trying to make it. Some of the men are just crazy, I think Romance may actually be crazy and a wannabe something..I just can't figure out what.. 12 pack is looking for work as an Actor, please. And White Boy! He is the most hilarious person, he totally reminds me of people I know here in DC.

I never watched Flavor of Love, there's just something gross about those yucky women trying to get with Flavor Flav. Really, he looks dirty to me and makes me feel sick when I think of him getting romantic with anyone or anything. He might he a nice person, but ewwwww. So when the network said they were introducing a new show with New York I thought they were crazy, but actually....well I'm completely convinced that She is not a real person who went on a reality show but an actress that made her way by being crazy on the first season of Flavor Flav.

She has too many moments where she pulls a charismatic act, and then goes street on people too fast, she probably is crazy, most actors are, but I don't believe her. This finale show of I love New York was great. The funniest part was when Mr. Boston brought out his friend Ben who dresses up as him and tries to get chicks, and the Pumpkin bit? It's so obvious that Pumpkin must be an actress too, I have no idea what Mr. Boston is trying for, maybe to leave his 6 figure job for something more in Hollywood. Although I would not be surprised if they are actually dating, if you don't know what I mean-watch the finale show with La La, it will be run at least ten times on VH1.

Jerry Springer is launching a reality show that lets you in on what the producers tell people to get them to act crazy on the show, I have a feeling something like that goes on before the Flavor of Love shows and maybe I love New York-throw in some plant actors and you have craziness for the masses.

At least when I watch I love New York it's so over the top, I know it's all for entertainment whereas when I watched Jerry Springer once or twice in the 90's I felt sickeningly sure that a lot of the people really were just trailer trash.

Anyways, I just wonder why people want to watch this stuff, I mean why am I watching it? I don't know, I Love New York brought in 4 million viewers, I think maybe it's because the idea of this crazy woman dating all these man hoes is so novel, not the like the Bachelorette at all. It was really interesting....and I was drawn in, whether I liked it or not. At least you can say there was a 'Freemarket' mentality to who New York picked..

VA Tech shooting

It was a very windy night with objects hitting our window and a howling in the air, that lead into this morning here in Virginia. If this were a book it would be a great prelude with forboding to the shootings today at VA TECH. The President will be on at 4:15 pm est to talk about the shooting as Governor Tim Kaine comes back from trade talks in Asia to comfort the public.

The last report I heard is that it's 32 for the count of people dead on Fox News and maybe more... I've watched as the President's press person announced that this is the worst shooting in the history of the U.S. Call me jaded but I find that hard to believe after Columbine and the shooting in PA last year.

I think I would rather not think about the events competing with each other. There was just a guest commentator on Fox about 5 minutes ago saying that this is all because we have a media that glamorizes death and violence and that we are too engrossed in video games that encourage people to behave this way.

Personally, I have a hard time blaming a video game for this mass shooting, maybe video games full of violence are not good for people on the edge. I think the real issue is that as a society we are more fractured as institutions are broken down and people are stressed, pushed to perform. I think these shootings are more a result of our post modern culture, the overall structure was broken down in the modern era. And now, in the post modern era their is a desire for structure and struggle for community that is harder to attain.

It's just easier for someone to fall apart and go nuts shooting people, without anyone taking notice first-apparently this guy was looking for his girlfriend to kill??? That's the report that keeps coming from students on campus who call into Fox. Student's jumping out of windows to escape the gunfire, a campus on lock down, FBI agents and shock..it's so strange that this is the second shooting at this school in not a year, but less than 9 months.

It reminds me of 9/11 and how I was thrown off my college campus because some jerk called in bomb threats. It wasn't enough that we were in shock over the attacks in New York and DC- but then someone had us kicked off our campus and even more terrified.

Now political contenders want in...Senator Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi, I think I should make a list of all the politicians who will want to talk about this.. My mind only imagines the reaction from politicians and what kinds of solutions might be introduced..

I think big government restraints on violence and behavior would do nothing but make people feel more alienated. It's important for local communities to work harder to care for each other before something like this happens...of course no one can predict these sorts of things..

Don Imus Liberal Racist

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/12/national/main2675273.shtml

I find it completely outrageous that the Liberals who have supported and coddled Don Imus all these years-HE WAS ON CBS RADIO-duh! Now they want to either say what he did was not worth getting fired over or that he is a conservative. GROW UP and grow some !@^$@#s.

The man should have been off the radio years ago as Wanda Sykes put it this week, 'I thought he was off years ago, I didn't know he was still on.' And it's true the man shouldn't have been on the air this long, I don't care about other shock jocks, he is a shock jock who is made of racism, bigotry, and sexism. He is the worst kind of liberal-one who believes that because he advocates welfare and gives money to 'nice' liberal groups that he can say whatever he wants and it doesn't matter.

His whole show was about degrading people of importance in our society-the most righteous liberal who tears everything up and leaves nothing sacred behind. More importantly, his behavior shows that he is not sorry, he attacked Al Sharpton and it's true neither Sharpton or Jesse Jackson can say they have never practiced hate speech because they have-the whole situation had the effect of being a laundry clearing house for people who are hypocrites or just racist.

He's a relic, I listened to his show once in 2004 on election day thinking it must be really important and was sadly dissappointed. I saw just an old man with a haggard face and frame of a drug addict that seemed more cantakarous than entertaining to my ears. Really, I had no idea why he was on TV. (See his 2005 interview in Vanity Fair for a history of his drug abuse, also Vanity Fair only profiles people they flaunt as liberal fans for their values.)

It's just a fact that many liberals are racist themselves in that they assume everyone is a racist jerk or worse yet that because they have some friends who are not white or because they lib women's rights that they can talk in the same way that encourages the behaviors they say the oppose.

IN fact, CNN aired a segment today saying that Don Imus will be carried on one station only in San Bernardino for the LA market-get it? Crass and liberal people, which is what I generally encountered in Hollywood as a menacing undertone to all the openness. Think Paris Hilton using the n-word and you begin to understand...

The Washington Post ran a piece yesterday on Don Imus and his behavior to call him a conservative which is true if you think the Pope is Muslim. Why else do you think so many of the media defended him? Why else do you think MSNBC and CBS allowed him to continue on?

I have entertained the theory and I think anyone who has spent time in the work world will agree-it's possible Don Imus was a relic that only survived as long as he had endorsements, there may have been a long line of people just waiting to fire him, salivating to see him get it for all the nasty things he has said, and all that needed to happen was to stop the precious money flow behind him. This actually comforts me.

The man is just past his time and this was overdue.

It's a Good Question

http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/04/whos_next_to_host_abcs_the_vie.html

I thought that ABC would cancel the View a long time ago when it was clear that the Hosts specifically, O' Donnell were going to punch their way through the show. Worse yet was the statement by Joy Behar two days ago that Imus' behavior last week was freedom of speech.

Why is it when a conservative says that everyone calls for their head after the Imus incident? But if a liberal says it it's considered enlighthened? Really? Maybe the argument is that people want to right to express themselves without the government's interference is being stretched to include jobs?

By the code of most diverse work places in the U.S. Imus would be fired, or at least put on a longer penalty of being fired. The first Amendment is about a person's right to say what they want and take the consequences of other people's reactions and attitudes without government interference. It is not about someone having a 'right' to be nasty and rude without suffering the public's condemnation, as if they were special . Now that the sponsors have pulled out Imus is loosing his place at MSNBC, but he keeps his radio show. It seems fair to me. I think his brand of humor which is really just taking very well known and highly regarded people and insulting them as a backhanded compliment went too far. I actually wondered if he thought this team was so famous his words would be taken that way. Whatever the case, I have listened to Howard Stern and Opie and Andy and never felt offended the way Imus offends. He just sounds like a cranky old man to me. I don't care how much money he raises for children, for all I know he raises it to make his guilt go away for himself.

This said, the public has obviously not made enough noise to have the View taken off the air. ABC has seen some rising ratings and they like that! Money in the pocket is more important than quality TV and programming. Really, I myself want to like Rosie' but she just has too many nasty moments. Her palpable anger scares me and I hate it when Joy acts like a boar and mows over people as they try to talk.

Maybe they should be sent to Charm School a la the girls from Flavor of Love II.

Don Imus

'Some Nappy headed hoes there-' That was Don Imus last week. I have heard so many things that make me feel weird about this situation. On the View Joy Behar was arguing that it's free speech and I think a few other people have said things like this-that he has a long career where he was not that offensive in that brand, and that maybe his behavior could be recanted by the creation of a scholarship.

I would have to agree with what Joy said when she thought that he could pick on the bigger guys instead of the weaker ones with his humor. It was a strange statement after so many years of being on the air. And when did being a shock jock mean you were just saying annoying rude things? What happened to the cleverness? I always feel like Howard Stern is clever even though he is talking about boobies or whatever.

Or how about Elliot in the Morning here in DC? I love him and he never puts down any group without making an equal remark on some other group. And certainly never anything as dumb as calling a group of women hoes. Imus must be loosing his touch, it was the statement of a teenage boy, not an entertainer.

More so, what's in the water this year that all these people keep making nasty statements and then apologizing or saying they are alcoholics? Have we all become more sensitive? Or is the culture becoming more lax and allowing people these statements? And how come they always come from Men on racial issues?

A scholarship is just a spanking and not enough to deter anyone from making these statements, but loosing their job, that makes a statement. Doesn't anyone remember when people got fired on SNL for saying the F-word?

And really, isn't a scholarship just trying to buy away the offense? Guilt money? I also don't appreciate him calling a bunch of hard working women hoes. Was he secretly emasculated by their strong lithe strength and athleticism in comparison to his old bones? Thereby he was prompted to try and bring them down by making nasty remarks??

Who knows? I surely don't..

Celebs Opinions?

So funny today on The View Joy Behar and the rest of the cast sans Rosie are fresh back from a vacation!

Joy Behar was talking about the ridiculousness of the idea that anyone cares what Paris Hilton thinks-and I agree-I am actually more turned off on products that she endorses and E! took a poll in the end of 2006 that said most of the public would like to see less Paris Hilton.

Maybe it's from the Southpark episode eschewing her and her image of posh sluttiness. It was fabulous!

Anyways, back to the View, Joy Behar then said I believe incorrectly that no one cares what Anne Coulter says which is an extremely dense statement. Paris Hilton's career is based on looks and behavior, we don't need her to talk and the more she talks, the less people like her-Anne Coulter's is entirely based on her ability to make interesting and provocative statements. Her ability to anger and excite people with words is her appeal.

Anne Coulter is highly educated and what many would call a very sassy pundit and entertainer like a comedian. And like a comedian she went to far with her verbal chicanery when she recently called John Edwards gay at CPAC. It was a total Andrew Dice Clay moment of shocked 'ouch' ness.

My guess is this is what prompted Joy Behar to talk about her in the first place.

I'm still waiting to see what happens-supposedly the ACU has banned her from future CPACs.

Pelosi of Damascus?

I just saw Nancy Pelosi's statement to the press after her trip to Syria to encourage this terrorist sponsoring country in their plight as a country that has been punished unfairly for their behavior. Right?

No, Pelosi's actions are nothing short of stupid, she even made the statement that the President should stop threatening her and said 'there is a new Congress in town.' Huh? And what congress would that be?

Certainly not this Congress which is barely a Democrat majority and not meant to be abused this way. She's gone beyond the pale of acceptable behavior for a Speaker of the House.
Here are my thoughts:
1.) She can't make any real promises to the Syrians since she can't really do anything w/o the President's approval.
2.) She's a woman and they don't respect Women in Syria like we do..but Condi has done okay since she's made it clear you get the barrel of a gun in the face if you don't show respect...
3.) The President hasn't threatened her, but everyone else has said her behavior was out of line. 4.) Congratulations on raising the Syrians hopes and making the situation more complicated.
5.)Does anyone inside the beltway find this whole thing funny? I mean the White House knew she was going, they had to have known, and they didn't stop her, maybe even they sent her hoping it would blow up in the Dems faces, and the Dems wanted her to go, hoping it would make the problems worse in Iraq so, they would not loose face if the surge is successful?
6.) The surge cannot be successful without the Dems looking stupid. But they will deny it's success anyways.
7.) The Dems were hoping it would give them a chance to broker peace and be heroes? Gotta give 'em credit for trying, but that should be left to charismatic snakecharmers like Bill Clinton, and be prepared to serve up a few interns in the process for him.
8.) Nancy Pelosi sounds crazy and I now feel bad for wanting to make the GOP pay during the election, when they said we wouldn't like her tax policies I never thought it would really be that I didn't like her renegade paranoid rantings.
9.) I live in a very liberal area of Arlington, no one in my apartment complex likes Bush and they all used to hold me responsible for his behavior-like I have any comtrol over that! -That said. I know NO liberals who like or trust Syria at this time anymore than they like Iran. Her behavior does not reflect the majority of American opinion, it only reflects the way stupid rich people in California feel...

Grindhouse

I had no interest in seeing Grindhouse-Quinten Tarantino's new movie, until I saw the E! special on the movie yesterday..why? The superb special effects especially the woman strapped to the hood for the longest craziest car chase I have ever seen.
It's sad, one PR promo and I am hooked when I didn't want to see it at all. The actress really is strapped to the hood, the driving is real, and Rosario Dawson really is in the car most of the time to help the actress have someone to respond to as the car is being driven.
I love the fact that QT has embraced women as fighters, heroes, and physical actors. It must be all about marketing because men love action with girls, and women can relate to the characters better.

Do you resent rich celebrities?

http://cafehayek.typepad.com/hayek/2007/04/the_income_race.html

I have to say this article above is very solid on it's statistics and asks a good question. DO you resent the super rich in Hollywood? Or in the other various entertainment fields? Sports, music, etc?

Personally, there are days when I resent Paris Hilton, Brandon Davis, Nicole Richie and some of the other endowed children of moguls. Especially, when they seem to be so bent on doing nothing but buying fame and shopping while they fight with each other out of boredom. They're gross people and I don't like them at all. And I am sick of hearing about them.

Do I resent people like Lindsey Lohan who work for their money and are bent on being crazy despite success? No. I think anyone who has earned their money through hardwork in the Entertainment fields is entitled to their wealth, I mean, we the 'American public' gave it to them. Plus it's quite clear that fame comes at a price mentally for these stars. Look at all the articles on celebrities who are checking in and out in and out of rehab centers at your local supermarket and it becomes obvious.

It does need to be asked though, a recent Newsweek issue on 'Kids' in other words teenagers asked if the public images of people like Paris Hilton affected them. And polls showed that 80% of teenagers today think it is most important to be famous and/or rich.

One response I can think of to that desire is you probably can find your 15 minutes of fame on the internet through You Tube or some reality show. The results of that experience would probably cure most people of the desire for fame in the first day.

What happened to wanting to make the world better or finding the cure for cancer? I know that was what I focused on in High School, and still do in my long term goals, although I can't get the cure for cancer-no math skills! :)

I recently visited Randolph Macon college for an event on awareness of rape and incest issues. I found a large group of people who were dedicated to changing the world. And one of the co-chairs of the event even used Helen Keller quotes in her all her emails.

I am only one; but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.
I will not refuse to do the something I can do.
~Helen Keller

That doesn't give the impression that 80% of the young un's are looking for nothing but fame and fortune. Maybe Russel Roberts is right and the media is skewed due to their own lives and ideas. Really a lot of reporters have no money and feel unloved for their dogged work. (LOL) Well, join the real world.

Angelina's Baby-Smaybe

As someone who follows the media I would like to dedicate one blog to this feeling or thought. I'm sick of hearing about Angelina's children. I know Brad's hot and she's hotter, and their kids are super cute. She's a great humanitarian, saving unfortunate kids, and it's great, but enough already!

Check out this week's US Weekly and you will find a whole spread on her newest adoptee PAX, and what life is like with her kids. Frankly, and you can call me jaded, I'm tired of hearing about her kids. It was cool when she started adopting and it was crazy when she got pregnant with Brad's kid, their new baby, Shiloh. It's just that she adopts a kid every 6 months, my only interest now is to see if she stays with Brad Pitt, if she adopts so many kids that she goes bankrupt, and if the kids as adults turn in to druggees or end up being stable.

Obviously, David Spade of the Showbiz Show, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466622/ , on Comedy Central has similiar thoughts, in last night's show, he did a skit calling Shiloh 'the real baby' and talking about how soon Maddox will be doing cocaine with the likes of Kate Moss. Thoughts that have crossed my mind many times before his monologue. It makes me feel sorry for her spoiled kids, it just seems inevitable that one of them won't become a coke head if they stay in the LA scene. Really. David Spade is a genius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Showbiz_Show_with_David_Spade
http://www.tv.com/the-showbiz-show-with-david-spade/show/43213/summary.html

In fact one of the reasons I left Hollywood was that I got sick of sooo many people taking coke all the time. Cokeheads are really annoying. Just yesterday my Sister was complaining of the prevalence of the drug and how easily people use it as a pick me up in that town. Especially Kids who as teenagers feel lost in the shadow of their parent's celebrity and accomplishments.

So enough said, everywhere I turn a magazine is toting the news of the new adoptee, just go to the local grocery store and you will feel nauseous, news shows, and especially E! Entertainment cannot stop covering the story.

It's a sign that nothing interesting is going on-other than Britney Spears imploding and exploding. That became too much to watch her problems, and felt just wrong if anyone suspect's that her problems were getting worse because of the attention.

Angelina and Brad seem to thrive on the attention to their kids, maybe it's a big PR scheme, I'm starting to wonder..because I just don't want to hear about her adoptions anymore.

Hilary Clinton Falling

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20070328/pl_bloomberg/atu9goqh4ga8_1

Pair this with the Southpark episode which aired last night, and she's not looking so good. The SP episode was one in which a nuclear device was found in her umm body that they called a snatch or snizzetch.
At one point a military man tries to deactivate the device and Hilary's vagina rips his head off and throws it out of her body. Yeah. The references to Bill and treatment of Hill in this episode do nothing for her. It's Southpark Conservatism at it's finest.

Katie and Tom???

So the most recent US Weekly, I think not on stands, but out to subscribers shows a picture of Katie Holmes looking harried and lost with a headline stating 'Inside Katie's Prison'. The inside article then details her life of being a prisoner of Tom Cruise.

I still remember a year ago when The Soup kept making fun of her response to media questions with a tight and weird 'Sure'. My husband then felt compelled to say 'that poor girl'. It's true I do feel sorry for her. Tom Cruise seems to have lost his perfect charismatic shine. It doesn't matter that he has made up with Brooke Shields after the public post baby depression argument in 2005. And that Brooke Shields is willing to publicly state that they are friends now? Well, good for her.

It was a great move to make up with her, she was angry and her anger was shared by his major support demographic-women, particularly women in their 30's who grew up with him. And he is certainly dressing like a Daddy these days and proudly displaying his wife. But it's far too obvious that he's not quite right. His hair is always disheveled, his clothes are a little off, he's too too happy. I never thought a celebrity could be too happy or shiny, but he looks manic.
Par this with reports that Katie Holmes is cut off from old friends and family members; suddenly it seems like Tom Cruise is your stereotypical powerful man dominating and abusing his wife.

As someone who has spoken out on domestic abuse issues and spent time studying them and the traditional profile of an abusive controlling man-I think his current profile of behavior makes him seem like a movie villain instead of a film hearththrob. Really, it's like the plot of a TV movie, powerful famous male actor, adored by millions, has a fabulous career, fabulous wealth, takes on a young naive actress to make into his slave. In public the villain is perfect and in private he is a monster.

Well, not quite. There have been no reports of physical abuse, and sources state that Katie Holmes has simply been overwhelmed by the new life she has been given. So there is a more plausible reason for her behavior than the idea of Tom Cruise being a hateful abusive jerk. It doesn't seem to matter as people do love to hate Tom Cruise now. I thought he was untouchable, but his comments in 2005 made so many in the media angry, his public fights didn't help, and his strange behavior have made him a target.

At the same time, I have a hard time believing that life is so bad for Katie, I mean she has tons of money, she gets everything she wants materially and she is married to a very powerful good looking man. She shops like mad, he picks up the bills, and she's uber famous now.

Can I just take a detour and say for someone who shops so much why does she always look so bad? She needs a stylist, her taste is deplorable. Maybe that's why they are rumored to be loveless. Although I find that hard to believe with the baby.

In fact the same article states that they were making out like mad at a Superbowl party this year. If it's true that she is a people pleaser and will try to make anything work as the US weekly article states then I can feel somewhat sorry for her. She may be in over her head. Maybe she just never realized she would have to cut back her career, change her religion, enter a crazy media circus, or loose friends and family for him. And what's with his mom and sister living with them? Moochers!

Whatever the deal is now, she is set for life even after this marriage is over, and believe me, they will get divorced eventually.

Another thought that occurs to me is that Cruise went for a very young woman to have his children and his profile now fits that of the mogul older man trading in wives for younger models. That's a turn off and is incongruous with his good boy image. Also, I don't believe he is straight, maybe that's why he looks so weird because he is stressed out trying to be straight.
Whatever the case it seems the Cruise's have become the newest media target since no one can take too much more about Britney Spears loosing her mind-although she is the blurb this week too.

Can I just say I long for the days of Brad, Jen A. and Angelina on the tabloids? That was sooo much more fun. I don't care much about Angelina's newest baby and Britney just makes me feel bad, and I don't like Tom Cruise anymore so hearing about his problems is annoying. I hate the Scientologists except they are so crazy they are entertaining. In fact the problems Tom keeps having mediawise are a great advertisement against the Scientologists. It's like 'see they aren't that great, they make people crazy! Just look at Tom Cruise!'

(Note: I would like to take a moment to extend Condolences to Tony Snow and his family. Today the news announced that his cancer has come back and metastized to his liver. Liver cancer is very serious, a mentor of mine died just last Summer from it. Maybe because he is young he will survive. Blessings.)

Dog Days a novel by Ana Marie Cox

Dog Days- http://www.amazon.com/Dog-Days-Ana-Marie-Cox/dp/1594489017
This novel was an interesting bit of tawdriness in the non-campaign season. I say non-campaign because it's not a major election year unlike next year. PSSST! Don't tell that to anyone on the current presidential campaigns! The book chronicles a young girl from Iowa-Melanie Thornton's life as a PR flack (Junior level) for the John Kerryesque John Hillman as he runs for President. His campaign is thrown a muck by a C-4 group called the Clearheads who accuse him of having brain experiments performed in college on himself.

The comparison to the Swiftboat Vets for Truth campaign is obvious. Even more obvious is the current President and incumbent in the race-William Golden. Golden says dumb things, the country does not like him(the book is written from the view of a liberal democrat), and yet he has an undeniable charm that infuriates the Hillman campaign and makes their work hard.
The main character has a best friend who is a lobbyist named Julie Thorton. Julie seems to be a composite of a number of people I have met, she's from a wealthy family, she loves spin, she has no c0mpunction about lobbying for any special interest. Julie warns Melanie that the TV host she is having an extramarital affair with is not honest and may be using her.

Julie and Melanie's friendship is a source of comfort to Melanie, as Julie is wise about the ways of DC, but in the end the friendship only serves as a demarcation of what Melanie wants to leave behind.

The affair with Rick Stossel (the tv host) is hard to understand, at first it seems to be going somewhere. But, it quickly becomes clear by Julie's statements and Melanie's internal monologues that the relationship is doomed. (SPOILER ALERT, SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU CARE) Personally, I suppose the relationship is supposed to mean more to the reader, but Cox kills it too quickly for me. I know it's going to end by the first 1/4 of the book and I don't like the guy. Maybe Cox just wanted to take out some aggression on the general DC establishment male newshow hosts. There are certainly more than enough hosting shows, cheating on wives, full of vigor.

And she has worked with more than a few in her career. Whatever the case, the character of Rick Stossel is barely attractive between his teethpicking, big nasty glasses, fatness, and unfaithful actions. He is supposedly very fast on the words and good at strategy. These two things are worth gold in the DC circuit, I'll admit they mean more then looks, most of the time, although money seems to get most people a second slot position on the social circuit even if they aren't respected at the end of the day.

What I liked about the book is that it: chronicled the relationship between pr flacks and the media just like it is, detailed the weather in August accurately(and believe me the weather in August in DC is worth an entire book, only rivaling the works of Tennyson on Misissippi), the drinking culture is dead on, and a variety of DC political culture in miniature. I think the best part in the book is when Melanie looks over to see an intern writing down word for word what the head of the campaign is saying to the Hillman staff. That would include the swearwords and dumb jokes.

I have to laugh because in my intern days and I know just about everyone else in this town, there was a sense of needing to perform but not always knowing what to perform on that leaves room for this kind of behavior. The descriptions of young staffers wearing 'West Wing' appropriate expressions is so perfect. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to tell people to calm down and chill out, that their uptight behavior wasn't going to win them a better job. Its just that behaving like this seems safer than being relaxed and jovial. Melanie's story of being called to DC for her work on issue campaigns in the Midwest and being from Iowa is almost a stereotype, I grew up in Iowa and I can honestly say there are more Iowans out here than any other state working in politics.

The best part may be when the characters of Melanie and Julie create the Capitolette, a blog supposedly written by a very slutty, albeit not bright, DC woman who has enough sex stories to make a locker room proud. The story unwinds to focus more on this character as Melanie and Julie find a woman to play the part for real-Heather. Heather is just like the character they have written out and perfect for the media blitz that follows her public appearances.

What I have to stop and remark on is that I knew the woman this Capitolette is based on-she was called the Washingtonnienne. A good friend worked with her and while I did not know her personally, I knew all about how stupid she was and how her blog affected the staff of Senator Dewine. So, at the time that she came out with her identity or had it revealed, she was working with Wonkette-or Ana Marie Cox-to gain publicity. At the time people in town conjectured that maybe Wonkette had created the whole story with only part being true to garner interest in her blog.

I have to say after reading this book which is a loosely veiled version of the 2004 events leading up to the election that year-I am now more convinced that Cox did in fact help invent Washingtonienne. I read the book Washingtonienne, Jessica Cutler's thinly veiled fictional telling of how the Washingtonienne blog blew up, it rang mostly true in describing why she behaved the way she did-but Cox allludes to the book being written in Dog Days.

So I have my own theories now based off these two books and in the end I don't think they would matter much to anyone who is not part of the DC circuit. And especially if they were not in town during this time period and familiar with the events.

I finished the book in a week and found it entertaining, but really in the end too insiderey and a bit fluffy. I couldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were seriously considering coming to DC to work on a campaign or in the political circuit.

The Remains of the Day

I finally sat down earlier this week and watched this movie. It had been on my list of movies to watch for years. This movie has a strange draw in that it is well acted and beautiful to look at frame by frame. http://imdb.com/title/tt0107943/ Of course I think if I had seen it in theaters, it might have gone over my head a bit. It's true some movies are really meant for people who have lived a bit-not the teeny bopper set.

The tension between the main character James Steven and Mary Kenton is sometimes funny, annoying and finally painful. I won't waste time talking about the plot of this move since I think IMDB or even Wikipedia can sum it up better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Remains_of_the_Day

But it revolves around the two main characters as they work to serve Lord Darlington. The backdrop is that it is the 1930's and England is not at war yet with Germany. This part is all told in flashbacks as Steven travels in the 1950's to see Miss Kenton. The flashbacks show that the Nazi movement is gathering steam and tensions are building between the English and the Germans. Lord Darlington takes the unpopular approach of trying to work with the Nazis to keep peace and trusts them far more than he should..his behavior is intrepreted as sympathy for them in the present of the film looking back.

Later in the film as Lord Darlington travels to see Miss Kenton, his car has broken down, he is confronted by some locals at a pub. They discern from his knowledge and familiarity with political figures and leaders that he must have known the now disceased Lord Darlington. The Wikipedia description says Steven is ignorant of his former employer's mistakes in judgement-that he was led astray by friends who were fascist, Nazi and anti-semitic. That may be true of Lord Darlington. But I have no doubt that James Steven knew better-it is very clear from his reactions.

Lord Darlington is someone that Stevens respects and seems to like as a master. It is clear he values his job and takes great pride in his ability to serve according to tradition. He even endures ridicule from a houseguest of Lord Darlington when asked what he thinks of a political situation repeatedly 'He says he doesn't know' by a member of the noble class. It is very clear that he doesn't want to speak out of place.

He admits to a man that gives him a ride to fix his broken down car upon perisisten questioning-that he did work for Lord Darlington and that his master admitted on his deathbed that he had been wrong to trust his 'friends'. This admission alone is enough to show that he is not in denial but someone who is simply uncomfortable with his emotions and does not feel comfortable sharing them.

Lord Darlington holds many meetings at his home Darlington Hall between Germans, Americans and other heads of state. These meetings are crucial to the story as they explain the unfolding build up to the war for England. Mr. Farraday a congressman from the U.S. says that the English are foolish and that they need to let career politicians who are experienced with these matters deal with the problem. He is a stereotype almost of the ugly american and this could explain why his warnings are not heeded. Farraday-played by a still able bodied Christopher Reeves-cuts a shocking and fiercly intelligent figure. At the end of his speech, the camera cuts to Steven as he twitches into a move to fix the table so that he does not allow himself to show his reaction to Farraday's speech. But he is obviously affected.

The meetings also reference the transition that England is going through in the period after the 1911Parliament Act which limited the role of the artistocracy through the House of Lords. England's political system and policy actions are ham strung as it tries to figure out how to make decisions. An example of this tension acted out would be when Steven continues serving while his father dies, he hears his fathers last words that he loved his mother, until she was unfaithful to him. And that he is proud of his son, the dichotomy between serving at a state dinner of great importance while his own father dies causing him to look sick-mirrors the current political system of England.

The same tension passes back and forth between Steven and Kenton as they fall in love with each other. Kenton gives Steven the chance to tell her how he feels about her, to express his emtions. But, he always holds back to his comfort zone of practiced conservative butler behavior. Their relationship is tepid in comparison to another younger couple who both impetuously leave the hall to get married, despite not having a career path in place.

Finally, Miss Kenton in an attempt to get Steven to admit his feelings tells him that she is going to leave with another man(Mr. Benn) to start a boarding House in the Western part of the country. Her choice also seems to be about leaving the pain of working with Steven while being in love with him.

She later says when they finally meet up 'the she was miserable for years' after she left Darlington Hall. It is too late for Steven and Benn as she eventually did fall in love with her husband. Her marriage is not happy, she has been spending time away from her husband-one of the reasons Steven went to visit her-but she has learned to love her husband and has a daughter who needs her to help with a new grandchild that is soon to arrive. A brief scene between Mrs. Benn and her husband quickly dispells any notion the audience has of a chance for romance between Steven and Benn.

And in fact when Steven arrives his only offer to Benn is for her to come work with him again at Darlington Hall for Mr. Farraday. While I found myself in hope that they would get together at this point, Steven's paltry offer of a job living out the same stilted love they had before is not desireable. It is clear that Mrs. Benn may have taken the offer if not for her daughter's new child, she even says she would go into service again which would not leave room for Mr. Benn, but it must be by her daughter.

Steven's inablity to allow his emotions to come through is shown in a rather funny way as well through is interactions with Lord Darlington's nephew, Cardinal. Cardinal is a journalist and rather quirky personality, Steven comes to know him when Darlington asks him to give the man who is far too old to need this education at the time-about the birds and the bees. Cardinal turns the awkward exchange into a chance to banter with Steven. They develop a friendship as the awkward ridiculousness of the first exchange is lost.

Steven cannot at first banter at all with Miss Kenton, but by the end he obviously can do so when he chooses. One sign of his emotional retreat in a flashback when she threatens to leave is that he stops bantering and retreats entirely into his butler mode-asking her to take care of a table when she is crying instead of offering her what she wants comfort and possibly a chance at a life together.

Steven again looses his ability to banter when Cardinal in his last scene tells Steven that his uncle is a fool. Lord Darlington is currently entertaining Nazi's in his parlor to try and work with them. And that they country is going to war, we later find out that Cardinal died in WWII through Steven's conversation with Mrs. Benn.

It was impossible for me not to cry as I watched Mrs. Benn get on the trolley and say good bye to Steven. They obviously love each other and it's a tough realization that their chances ended when she left Darlington Hall and their opportunities are lost. Briefly, before she heads home they discuss the end of the day and she says 'some people think this is the best time of day, the remains of the day'. Personally, I see this phrase as meaning there is still time left in the day to do things differently and reflect on what has happened and what you have done. This metaphor relates to life in that as long as you are alive no matter how many years have passed you still have time to do things differently and to reflect on what you have done. Steven shares some emotion with Mrs. Benn and an affection for her that is honest before she leaves.

The movie is incredibly sad as it shows opportunities lost, to avoid the pain of WWII, and a great love lost. But both characters have things to look forward to at 'the remains of the day'. Mrs. Benn has a new baby to take care of and a chance at a renewed relationship with her daughter. Steven has gone to work for Mr. Farraday who by nature is the opposite of the naive, uptight, and maybe even ignorant Lord Darlington. At the end, Steven watches as a bird becomes trapped in a room with Mr. Farraday and himself, Farraday deftly catches the bird and sets it free while Steven holds the door open. Our final scene of Steven is as he watches the bird fly away. The bird is a symbol of freedom and a new begining.

I found this movie much easier to enjoy when I realized it was written by a Japanese British man-Kasuo Ishiguro. The interaction between Steven and Kenton reminds me of the Japanese culture of emotional reserve that is so unfamiliar to the West and especially Americans. It also adds to the culture of confusion that is so apparent as England changed in the 1930's.
